About RICA

Emissions and Fuel Economy

RICA meets Euro 4 Emissions Compliance and independently proves fuel economy gains!

RICA Engineering are the first aftermarket tuning company in the world to achieve Euro 4 compliance for their performance diesel ECU upgrades! But what does this mean? How does it compare with TUV approval? And what are the results?

The results of the tests prove that for example a Volvo V70 D5 Euro 4 163 hp achieves the following improvements with the RICA Peformance ECU upgrade:

  • Urban emissions reduced by 15%
  • Average emissions reduced by 10%
  • Urban fuel economy improved by 15%
  • Average fuel economy improved by 10%

For any customer with a RICA Engineering diesel ECU upgrade, Euro 4 compliance means complete assurance of the quality of the performance software. It shows that RICA have had their performance ECU upgrades independently tested and verified by on officially recognised body to prove that the upgrade really does reduce emissions, and that fuel economy does indeed improve as claimed by RICA.

Many tuning companies claim TUV approval for their products, but TUV approval only shows that the product meets the minimum required safety standards for use. TUV approval does not prove reduced emissions or improved economy. TUV has nothing to do with emissions, performance or economy at all.

Euro 4 Emissions Compliance means that the actual real world performance of the engine, and specifically the emissions, comply with the latest European regulations to which all the vehicle manufacturers must also comply with. Euro 4 compliance is therefore a much higher level of quality assurance because it proves that the actual performance software is written to the same high standards as that of the manufacturers. Most importantly, it proves that your car meets the same strict European emissions requirements as it did when it left the factory.

The tests were carried out by the Dutch equivalent to MIRA. Full test data is available from RICA Engineering.

MOT Emissions

Tuning a car correctly means that the engine emissions must still comply with regulations. In the UK this is fairly straight forward because the only emissions test that the owner must comply with is the MOT once the car is older than 3 years. RICA ensure that all cars tuned in the UK will pass all the current MOT emissions tests, assuming of course that there is no other problem with the car which could cause an emissions failure such as a faulty catalytic converter.

Did you know...

New diesel technology means that the engines now produce virtually no smoke at all, not even at full throttle. Improvements in the fuel systems and the introduction of the particulate filters means that diesel cars are now cleaner and kinder for the environment than ever.
