RICA Custom Tuning
Custom tuning is where the software in the ECU is finely tuned to advantage of non-standard
components fitted to the car. For example, a larger turbocharger or a large bore
downpipe would require custom tuning because they will behave differently with the
normal RICA software. Without custom tuning you will either not make the most of
the hardware fitted, or potentially damage the engine or components.
Stage 2 Upgrades
The most common
step up from a normal ECU upgrade is to fit a large bore exhaust system, including
a race-cat downpipe. Since most stage 2 upgrade use commonly available components,
it is often possible to use ready made stage 2 RICA software which is custom written
to support these modifications. Example - V70R 2003> with 3" race-cat downpipe
and custom stage 2 software.
Custom Mapping
If you have a heavily modified car with a larger turbo, large bore exhaust system,
larger injectors, uprated fuel pump, etc etc then you will need a individually tailored
custom tune.
This will require running your car on a rolling road and carefully
fine tuning the software until the desired results are achieved. The whole process
can often take several hours so you must allow for at least one day for a custom
tune, if not longer.
What next?
Once you have decided on the custom tuning route, you should contact a RICA agent,
or contact RICA Engineering directly to discuss the options.
Depending on your requirements, your car may need to be tuned on the rolling road.
If that is the case, then you should contact an agent equipped with a rolling road.
RICA Engineering can advise you on any matters regarding custom tuning.
